Welcome Back To Rivermont Farms

Rivermont Farms is located in Mendota, VA and the property has been in the Barker family since 1776.  Jack and Cynthia Barker ran a successful Arabian Horse Breeding and Showing program from 1982-1999, which included several National and Reserve-National Champion Arabian horses.

Over the years, Rivermont Farms has become a special place for all who visit.

This website is dedicated to Jack & Cynthia Barker and all the years at Rivermont Farms.
It is also a place to share your own stories and memories in the comment sections.
Keep checking back for more photo and video updates.

RIVERMONT FILMS ARCHIVES (VIDEO)

Rivermont Films was born in 1984.   At first, most of the productions were limited to Arabian show horses at the farm and at local horse shows.  Creating "sizzle videos" of the latest crop of Arabian beauties became a Rivermont tradition.  But other videos of the farm property, animals and other family events soon followed.  Most of all this footage was lost in the barn fire of 1999, including all Rivermont Arabian horse show videos and photos, however a few individual pieces survived.  Today, these videos offer a glimpse into the past and present of Rivermont Farms and showcase the pride and passion created by Jack and Cynthia Barker.

RIP Jack & Cynthia Barker

Jack first met Cynthia at a party in Houston, Texas hosted by his cousin Lance McFaddin in 1980.  After over a year of flying back-and-forth every other weekend from Bristol to Houston (back in those days, you had to fly Piedmont), Cynthia finally moved to the farm in Mendota in 1981.  They were married in 1984 and together built the legacy of Arabian Horses at Rivermont Farms, including the breeding of Unique Hope and Divine Faith.  They lived in Naples, FL until Jack's death in 2006.  Cynthia later passed away from Cancer in 2014.

Here is an online obit for Cynthia Barker.

Cynthia Barker: Arabian Horsewoman

After growing up and living in Houston, Texas, with careers in advertising for Radio Station KRBE and selling real estate for Coldwell Banker, Cynthia moved to Mendota, Virginia in 1981 and started a new life in the world of Arabian horses.  Her first showhorse was named S.R.F. "So-So" So Rafason and she started lessons in February 1982, just in time to join the summer show season.  She had a rocky start and fell off her horse in her very first event.  But later jumped back on and finished the show.  Thus started the long and passionate road to success for Cynthia and her Arabians at Rivermont.

Her later success as a breeder of Arabian horses would earn her fame around the industry and the envy of several of the world's top breeders.
